My grandmother's recipe

Every year, Wild Rose Press publishes a holiday cookbook so if you're looking for new recipes, be sure to look for it when it comes out later this year. I just sent in my grandmother's recipe for "Whoopee Pies," which is a family favorite.

Whoopee Pies

Mix:     2 cups flour       1/4  tsp salt       1/3 cup cocoa
           1 cup sugar       1 tsp vanilla       3/4 cup milk
           1 tsp soda         1 egg                1/3 cup oil

Beat until well blended.  Drop from a spoon onto a cookie sheet lightly greased and bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.

Beat filling in mixer:

           1 stick margerine softened 
           1 cup conf sugar
           1 tsp vanilla
           5 tbsp marshmallow

Some family members double or triple the recipe to make super-sized whoopee pies. Either way, it's a good idea to double the filling. My mother warms the marshmallow for easier blending. 


Now it's back reading about serial killers...more research.
